Authorities are investigating a violent incident involving 20-year-old Holden Cothran that began in Tulsa and ended in Rogers County, leaving two people injured and the suspect dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began overnight when Cothran allegedly abducted his 17-year-old girlfriend following a gathering in Tulsa. Investigators say the situation escalated quickly, with the victim reportedly being assaulted during the ordeal.
At one point, the teen managed to escape and sought help from a Good Samaritan at a gas station near 31st Street and Memorial Drive. Officials said the Good Samaritan attempted to assist her, but Cothran allegedly pursued them, leading to a confrontation.
During that encounter, authorities reported that multiple shots were fired into the vehicle the victim had entered. No one inside was struck, but the Good Samaritan was reportedly assaulted while attempting to intervene.
Investigators say the teen was forced back into Cothran’s vehicle, and the situation continued as they traveled into Rogers County. During the drive, Cothran allegedly assaulted the victim further and fired additional shots inside the vehicle. Despite the gunfire, the teen was not struck and later managed to escape.
Law enforcement officials located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit that ended near Inola. According to authorities, as deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, Cothran died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The vehicle then crashed, bringing the incident to an end.
The teenage victim and the Good Samaritan were both transported to area hospitals. Officials said their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The Rogers County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the full sequence of events, including the timeline of the alleged kidnapping, assault, and shooting. Authorities have not released additional details at this time.
The incident has raised concerns within the community, highlighting issues related to domestic violence and the risks faced by those who attempt to intervene in dangerous situations.
